Stuck in the cone of shame, this dog got the best present ever!

Meet Zep, a ten-year-old golden retriever, who has struggled with cancer since the age of three. Being struck with the ‘Big-C’ has severely damaged poor Zep’s immune system, meaning he has had to spend a great deal of his adult life in-and-out of the vet, getting various treatments to soothe his ailments. Sometimes he has to go under the knife, and that means.. the cone of shame.

Amber Gerick, Zep’s had this to say:

He has had to deal with a lot in his life, the poor boy. He gets sick quite easily. The most common thing he gets is dog dermatitis. He will be fine one minute, and covered the next. He doesn’t really get super bummed about wearing the cone, as he is kind of used to it.

Having to have spent a large portion of his life in the cone, Zep’s become a master of rocking it without complaint. He doesn’t try to fight it, and even though he’s not the biggest fan of the cone, he knows it’s for his own good.

Zep does have a bright spot in his life, as you can see above, he goes crazy for a good chew toy. What doggo doesn’t really? His favorite is a duck called quackitty.

He even takes him to bed!

But sometimes he can get a little too enthusiastic..

Knowing that Zep has an affinity for a good toy, his owner recently gave him the most perfect toy to help him through his trying times in the cone of shame.

Look at that smile! It’s a toy dog that also has to wear the cone of shame. Now Zep will have someone who knows exactly what he’s going through..

It’s clear that Zep has a great mom:

I love him so much it’s ridiculous. He just makes me smile every day and I don’t know what I would ever do without him.

We love Zep too. Hopefully, the future will see Zep’s medical ailments clear and he can spend the rest of his life with a collection of the most chew-able toys and never have to wear the cone of shame again. Godspeed, Zep.
